Gallery 339 presents the work of nine local and international artists in this exhibition of photographs
spanning the
physical and psychological landscape of summer. The show features artwork by Edward Dimsdale,
David
Graham, Sookang Kim, Serge J-F. Levy, Dan Lobdell, Amanda Means, Robert Raczka, Stuart Rome, and Douglas
Takeshi Wolfe.
Shot in locations from New York City to Seoul, South Korea, Summer Idylls offers a view of
July and August that
includes both dreamy and arcadian visions as well as scenes that might be caught from a Winnebago as
it
trundles across America. The work addresses a broad view of fine art photography, ranging from
minimalist
abstraction to photo-journalism and from traditional silver gelatin printing to digital output.
Whatever the locale or
technique, the images offer compelling views of our collective summer experience, both internal and
external.
Playing hooky never looked so good.
Serge J-F. Levy has had work published in magazines and newspapers, including The New York Times
Magazine
and The London Sunday Times Magazine, and recently had a solo show at the Leica Gallery in Tokyo.
Amanda
Means work has been exhibited widely and collected by the Whitney Museum of American Art and the
Los
Angeles County Museum. Local artist, Stuart Rome, assisted in developing the photography program
at Drexel
University and his work has been collected by the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Museum of Fine
Arts,
Houston. David Graham has several photographic books to his credit including Land of the Free,
which was
published by Aperture in 1999.
